JASPER

CHAD BOLTON wants to be a driver for NASCAR. We open with a small race in Tennessee, where he is up against his racing nemesis, BENNETT JONES. Chad’s support system is there, GRANDDADDY, CATFISH, and BUBBA. The singer for the National Anthem, JAIME SCOTT, comes out, and she and Chad spot one another. Chad is smitten and personally vows to win the race for her. It was a close call, but Chad pulls through and wins the race. Jaime hands him his trophy, and Chad asks for her number. A NASCAR scout, DARRELL DOBBS, approaches Chad and asks him to try out for his team in Charlotte. Chad agrees, and Jaime approaches him with the intention of rejecting him. Instead, they decide to meet up at a coffee shop in Jasper, Tennessee, where Jaime is from. Jaime runs into her parents at the racing track, and her father DALLAS is upset with her. He wants her out of the house.

Jaime and Chad meet up at the coffee shop, and they talk about their dreams. We learn that Jaime’s brother BO SCOTT was a car racer who died years ago on the same track from the prior evening.  Chad gives Jaime his winning trophy to remember him by. Chad goes back home to a pecan farm in South Georgia and talks about Jaime with Granddaddy. Jaime gets to Nashville for what she thinks is her first gig at a bar restaurant, but instead she was asked to be a server, not a singer. She strikes a deal with the owner to be a server with a chance to sing. The singer in the bar that night, ANN MARIE, likes Jaime and connects her with CHARLIE RAY, a bar owner at a different place.

Chad visits the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte. He goes to his new apartment, where he finds Bennett is his roommate. Both are trying out for NASCAR and go to the track to see Dobbs and meet BAKES, the pit crew chief. Bennett intentionally rams into Chad during their tryout, causing Chad to spin out and crash. Dobbs kicks Bennett out and takes Chad onto the team.  Chad lost a photo on the track during the crash of him and his parents, and Bakes gives him the burned photo. Jaime is approached by a music agent in Nashville named JEREMY STEELE. Chad begins to abuse the intake of pills he was given at the hospital and begins drinking heavily. His dreams are his history – his parents died in a house fire when he was 10, and he was raised by Granddaddy on the pecan farm. Jaime and Chad are texting, and she checks in on him after the crash. Jaime meets with Jeremy, and she is offered a contract. Chad does well in a qualifying race but continues to pop more pills and drink. Chad goes to visit Jaime at a CASEY WYATT concert and meets the singer.

He gets in trouble with Dobbs for going out late before a race. Jaime misses the race because she is in the recording studio and is nervous to watch him, in case he crashes. Chad crashes anyway but is okay. He continues to see his past in dreams, as he takes pills and alcohol. He runs out of pills and is prescribed Adderall at an Urgent Care. He has his best qualifying round yet, and spends the night at Bakes’s house, where his son, JUNIOR, asks for a pill. At the race, Dobbs tells Chad he failed the drug test. He is kicked out of NASCAR. Jaime is having dinner with Jeremy to celebrate, but she is caught up in what is happening to Chad, and she asks to go home. Jeremy assaults her, and Charlie Ray scares him off with her shotgun. Jaime tries to talk with Jeremy the next day, but he has security escort her out. She is stuck in a 5-year contract where he controls her. Jaime goes to see Chad, but he is still struggling and takes her for a drive, where he is under the influence. He scares Jaime away, but she decides to write a song to help him. They meet up in Jasper, and they apologize. Chad proposes, and she tells him to go to rehab. They go to her favorite peaceful spot, where she plays him a song and they kiss. They visit Bo’s grave.

Chad is gone for a few months and sees Casey in rehab. He tells him about Jaime being stuck with Jeremy, and Casey promises to help if they both promise to get better together. Chad eventually leaves and goes to speak with Dobbs about racing again. Jaime is playing at a bar in Nashville, and Casey comes with an annulled contract.

Chad is racing in the Daytona 500 and wins. Casey congratulates him, and Jaime enters the track. Chad takes her to his car and proposes to her on the roof. She says yes. They meet her parents back home in Jasper, and Dallas offers Chad pecan pie while welcoming him to the family.
